Thunder’s Fright Night

I’ve stomped through every haunt on this map. Most of them screamed louder than I did. Pick one. I’ll be right behind you.

Worth the Drive

Destination-level Halloween attractions: the big parks and record-setting haunts Texans road-trip for. This list sits alongside the normal results and never changes how they are sorted.

Meet your hosts

Six hosts know the way through these haunted places. Choose a guide… if you trust them.

Ember

Haunted Houses
Every house on my list has a door that only locks from the outside. I checked.

The Baron

Drive-Through Haunts
Keep your doors locked and your windows up. Something is following the headlights.

Silas

Haunted Trails and Farms
I have stood in this field since 1931. Stay on the trail, no matter what you hear behind you.

Mara

Ghost Tours and map guide
I have walked these streets for 150 years. Take the tour. I will be the cold spot right behind you.

Elias, the Keeper

Real Haunted Locations
These walls remember everyone who came before you. I keep their stories. Some of them are still here.

Agatha

Farms & Pumpkin Patches
Bring the little ones. Nothing here bites. Not on these nights, anyway.

Haunt survival guide

Buy tickets online

Saturdays in late October sell out. Online tickets are usually cheaper, and many haunts sell fast-pass or timed-entry upgrades.

Ember says

Go early or go weeknights

Lines are shortest right at opening and on Thursday or Sunday nights. The last weekend before Halloween is the busiest.

The Baron says

Dress to run

Closed-toe shoes, no costumes or masks for guests at most haunts, and leave bulky bags in the car. Trails get dusty or muddy.

Silas says

Check age guidance

Every card shows a scare level and the venue’s age guidance. For younger kids, switch on Family Halloween to see only family and mild spots.

Agatha says

Know the rules

Actors won’t touch you unless it’s a full-contact haunt, and you shouldn’t touch them. Most haunts have a safe word or exit if it gets too much.

Mara says

Dates, hours and prices come from each attraction’s official site and are checked regularly, but haunts change schedules often. Spots marked “Confirm dates” are still awaiting 2026 confirmation. Always check the official site before you go.

Best Haunted Houses in Texas

Texas has some of the biggest and longest-running haunted attractions in the country, from multi-house scream parks to small-town jailhouse haunts. Every listing in this guide comes from the Thunderfoot Sports master event list and is checked against each attraction’s official site, with scare levels, age guidance and operating nights on every card.

Destination haunts worth planning a trip around

  • Thrillvania in Terrell spreads three attractions across 50 haunted acres east of Dallas.
  • Cutting Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth holds the Guinness World Record for the longest walk-through haunted house.
  • Nightmare on 19th Street in Lubbock packs four haunts and 1.25 miles of scares onto one ticket.
  • Phobia Haunted Houses on Houston’s Beltway 8 runs eight haunts with covered lines.
  • Graystone Scream Park in Longview and Scream Hollow in Smithville are full Halloween parks with multiple houses, shows and food.
  • For the most intense experiences, look for the Extreme scare level, such as SCARE for a CURE near Austin, a full-contact charity haunt for ages 13 and up.

Theme-park Halloween

Six Flags Over Texas Fright Fest in Arlington, Six Flags Fiesta Texas Fright Fest and SeaWorld Howl-O-Scream in San Antonio add haunted mazes, scare zones and live shows to a regular park day. SeaWorld also runs a daytime, family-friendly Spooktacular.

Texas Ghost Tours

Ghost tours are the mild end of Halloween: guided walks through historic downtowns, cemeteries and old hotels, usually about an hour long and open to all ages. Popular picks include Historic Galveston Ghost Tours, River City Ghosts in San Antonio, Dallas Terrors, the adults-only Hell’s Cowboys tour in Fort Worth, Historic Jefferson Ghost Walk in East Texas, and Lamplight Ghost Tours in Montgomery and Conroe near Lake Conroe.

Family Halloween Events in Texas

Not every Halloween night has to be a scream. Turn on Family Halloween in the guide to see trunk-or-treats, downtown spooktaculars, pumpkin-lit farm nights and haunts with lights-on or kid hours. Many bigger haunts also run gentler options, like the no-scare Family Days at Silo of Screams in Temple, the Kids Haunt at Terror Isle in Texas City and the lights-on route at Black Betty in Beaumont.

How we rate scare levels and ages

Family means no scares or very gentle ones. Mild covers ghost tours and spooky walks with few jump scares. Scary is a traditional haunted house with live actors. Extreme means full-contact, very long or unusually intense. Age guidance comes straight from what each venue posts; when a venue doesn’t post one, the card says so.
