Beach camping rules and permitted spots

Texas beach access does not mean overnight camping is allowed everywhere. Use the Beach filter for listed camping areas; check the managing agency before arrival, especially after storms or high tides.

  • State parks: Camp only at designated sites. Mustang Island and Sea Rim beach sites can close with weather; state park campsite fees and daily entrance fees are separate. Mustang Island rules · Sea Rim rules
  • Padre Island National Seashore: North Beach, South Beach and Yarborough Pass permit dispersed camping with a valid entrance pass; Malaquite Beach does not. Developed campgrounds require a self-issued permit and nightly fee. Maximum 14 consecutive nights, then 14 nights out of the park. NPS camping rules
  • Port Aransas: Tent and RV beach camping is limited to three nights per three-week period; motor vehicles need a beach parking permit. City rules
  • Corpus Christi Gulf beaches: Beach parking permit required; camping limited to three consecutive days and nights and six days per month. No camping in front of condos or hotels. City rules
  • Bolivar Peninsula and Matagorda: Bolivar allows beach camping, but parked vehicles usually need a beach sticker outside free zones. Matagorda beach vehicles require a county permit; confirm overnight boundaries locally. Bolivar rules · Matagorda vehicle permits
  • Galveston and Surfside: Public beach camping is prohibited within those city limits; use designated Galveston Island State Park campsites or the county beach east of Surfside. Galveston notice · Surfside rules
