The Broncos addressed their top tight end need by signing Evan Engram. Now they should focus on rounding out the position group. With limited depth behind Engram, Denver should take a hard look at Noah Fant, who’s back on the market after being released by the Seahawks.

Fant isn’t coming in to fix the tight end room. That’s not the ask. But as a second option behind Engram, he’s a clear upgrade over the current alternatives and brings more to the table than what’s on the roster today.

Fant vs. Trautman and Krull

Adam Trautman offers value as a blocker but has never been a factor in the passing game. Lucas Krull has potential, but that’s all it is—potential. Neither stretches the field or creates matchup issues.

Fant does. He has five seasons of experience, has stayed healthy, and has produced nearly 2,800 receiving yards. He’s not a TE1 on most rosters at this point in his career, but as a TE2, he gives you something meaningful: athleticism, proven production, and versatility. That’s more than Trautman or Krull can offer right now.

Familiarity with Denver and George Paton

Fant was drafted by Denver in 2019 and spent three seasons with the team before being sent to Seattle as part of the Russell Wilson trade. That move wasn’t performance-related—it was about getting the deal done. George Paton made that trade, and he knows what Fant brings to the table.

Bringing Fant back wouldn’t require projection. The Broncos know who he is, how he operates, and where he fits. He’s familiar with the environment and would step into the locker room with no adjustment period.

Depth That Adds Value, Not Just Bodies

Adding Fant wouldn’t change the offense overnight—but it would improve the quality of the roster. If Engram misses time or the Broncos want to use more two-tight-end looks, Fant is someone who can contribute without the offense taking a step back. That’s not the case today.

He’s not here to be a savior or a headline. He’s here to fill a gap with real experience and capability.

Bottom Line
The Broncos don’t need to overpay or overreach. Noah Fant won’t be expensive, but he would bring immediate improvement to the tight end depth chart. He’s a better option than what’s currently behind Evan Engram, and that’s reason enough to bring him back.
